Desktop Technician Non-Merit - Salary - $28.00 / Hour - Description - Scheduled Hours per week: 34 A Non-Merit vacancy exists in the Office of Information Technology. You must include the dates of the promotions and reclassifications. - Required Qualifications - High School Diploma, GED or equivalent; plus at least three years experience in PC repair and support in a networked environment, including: Installation, maintenance, upgrades and repair of PC hardware; Supporting HP printers; Installing, troubleshooting and configuring Windows 2000, and Windows XP operating systems; Basic networking and Novell Client; Troubleshooting and installing e-mail clients; Writing clear, concise instructions and various documentation; Efficiently communicating both in writing and verbally; Using and troubleshooting of MS Office suite; Working with various PC peripheral equipment such as scanners, PDA¹s, plotters, printers, and Blackberrys'; Working with AV related equipment such as projection systems including setup and maintenance; Working as a project team member for a variety of IT-related projects; Working with Zenworks; Working with Imaging products. Additional education in PC repair and support or a related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. - Character Requirement - Persons appointed to this classification must be of good moral character and emotionally stable as determined by a comprehensive background investigation and a drug test. License Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial class C, Maryland driver's license is required at the time of application. This will also require travel to various locations within the county and may require the use of personal vehicle. Technicians are responsible for maintaining current technical competence through self-study, attending employer-provided training, and attending meetings that provide updated information about the current computing environment. Technicians will be required to join an on-call rotation to provide after-hours desktop computer technical support to end users.
